The Ashen Wastes lie at the northernmost edge of the Kingdom of Verland. Winters there are long, and heavy snow can last for months. Because of the harsh climate and distance from the capital, most nobles are unwilling to stay in the north for long. But precisely because of that, the Ashen Wastes have preserved vast tracts of undeveloped land, abandoned mines, and numerous ruins left behind by ancient civilizations.
